Italian
mafia is not hit by the global economic crisis, as it possesses huge funds to
buy bankrupted companies and enlarge with unemployed people.
Experts
say the economic downturn was caused by lack of finances, which certainly is
not the case with the Italian mafia, which possesses huge sums of money, mainly
dirty money. According to data from SOS Impresa association, which assists the victims of racketeering and extortion, the revenues of crime sindicates hit nearly 130 billion euro profit per year, with 70 billion euros profit. The money was mainly collected from drug trafficking (59 billion euros, extortion (9 billion euros), prostitution (6 billion euros), arms trafficking (5.8 billion euros), smuggling etc. Large number of companies, corporations and real estate agencies, all pressed by global economic crisis, strike deals with the mafia organizations to launder the dirty money. Most "laundered" money of the mafia is being invested in construction, retail trade and restaurants. |
