Presidential hopefuls Josipovic, Bandic lead among voters in Croatia - poll Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 November 2009

josipovic_bandic_hrOpposition Social-Democratic Party (SDP) fears their presidential candidate Ivo Josipovic will face Zagreb mayor Milan Bandic in the second round of elections, shows a GfK poll.

The difference between the SDP official candidate and the Zagreb mayor, who was excluded from the party membership, is less than two percent. Josipovic leads with 17.1 percent, followed by Bandic's 15.2 percent.

Taking into consideration that Josipovic has led polls since announcing his candidacy, although his ratings have recently dropped, Bandic's nomination should pose a concern for the other candidates.

According to the GfK poll, candidate Nadan Vidosevic is third (11.9%), followed by ruling HDZ party hopeful Andrija Hebrang (9%) and former party colleague Dragan Primorac, Vesna Pusic and Damir Kajin.

The poll has shown that majority of respondents want the future president not to be experienced, handsome, family man and patriot, but honest, put citizens' interests at the top of priorities and fulfill given promises.
