Informal meeting Ivanov-Papandreou in Copenhagen Print E-mail
Friday, 18 December 2009

Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov briefly met at his request with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou at the sidelines of the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference on Thursday.

President Ivanov welcomed the established dialogue between the two countries, which should contribute to the increase of trust and better understanding of political leaderships.

"Both societies communicate and cooperate without any problems. Such communication will undoubtedly increase with the visa liberalization", stressed President Ivanov.

The Macedonian President confirmed his readiness for open communication through the invitation to Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias for a meeting that would contribute towards relaxation of bilateral political relations.

Ivanov said the problem Greece has with Macedonia's name is a consequence from past times and ancient prejudices. He expressed hope that Greece would overcome the position of blockades, which has not yielded results, in the spirit of European unity, regional stability and prosperity.
