Bulgaria and Romania drug transit points Print E-mail
Friday, 06 November 2009

Drug dealers redirected cocaine transit through Bulgaria and Romania, because corruption allows them to transfer the drug in other European countries.
Interpol Director Max-Peter Rachel said, making reference to Helsingin Sanomat subscription newspaper.
Rachel said drug dealers from South America do not pick Spain and Portugal as their last destination for drug trafficking because of high security in these countries.

He added that nowadays drug is smuggled through Gibraltar, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea to Bulgaria, Romania and EU member states, where poverty and corruption is present.

The police having very low salaries in these countries make drug transit to European countries much easier.
Interpol Director added that EU enlargement brought to increased criminal activities and the chain not being East-West only.
