Bulgarian Foreign Minister Rumiana Zheleva and incumbent Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Youth Maros Sefcovic are the candidates for the next Enlargement Commissioner, reads Paris daily "Liberation". The newspaper says the one who fails to get the post will be the new Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs. According to "Liberation", Frenchman Michel Barnier will be the new Commissioner for Internal Market and Taxation, Hungarian Laszlo Andor for Financial Programming, whereas Romanian Dacian Ciolos for Agriculture and Rural Development. Industry Commissioner Guenter Verheugen (Germany) is to assume post Energy, whereas Janusz Lewandowski (Poland) is to replace him. Incumbent Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn (Finland) is to head the Economic and Monetary Affairs post, Dutch Neelie Kroes is to assume office Trade, whereas Joaquin Almunia (Spain) will be in charge of Competition. Current Energy Commissioner, Lithuanian Andris Piebalgs will assume post Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities. Euro-commissioners for Information Society and Media, Viviane Reding (Netherlands), Transport-Antonio Tajani (Italy), Administrative Affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud-Siim Kaalas (Estonia)and Development and Humanitarian Aid-Karel de Gucht (Belgium) will remain in their offices. The remaining posts will be assumed by Connie Hedegaard (Denmark)-Climate and Environment, Cecilia Malmstrom (Sweden)-Human Rights, Maire Geoghegan Quinn (Ireland)-Budget, Johannes Hahn (Austria)-Science and Research, Algirdas Semeta (Lithuania)-Structural Funds, Maria Damanaki (Greece)-Education, Training, Culture and Youth, and Androulla Vassiliou (Cyprus)-Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. "Liberation" reads that the final distribution of posts would be known in the course of next week, when President Jose Manuel Barroso should officially announce the new European Commission. |
